Dancing for Introverts

Introverts may be shy or quiet, but many introverts become drawn to dancing. How does this happen? Dance is a form of self-expression that introverts tend to shy away from. However, dance is the form of expression that introverted people find the perfect outlet for.


The reality is dancing can help introverts in a variety of ways. For introverts that are new to dancing or considering starting, it provides a unique opportunity to step out of their comfort zone.



Make New Friends

Dance classes are an excellent opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. It provides you with an activity to bond over a common interest. Most classes have a combination of introverts and extroverts. The presence of extroverts can help introverted people feel more comfortable dancing. Introverts can forge connections that go beyond dance.


It’s a Judgment-Free Environment

In a dance class setting, everyone is trying to improve and work on rhythm, movement, and technique. A dance environment lends itself to being a positive, supportive and non-judgmental environment. Only the dance instructor will be watching you dance, and it’s to help you improve yourself as a dancer, not critique you.


The Focus Isn’t On You

As an introvert, it’s completely normal to feel anxiety in unfamiliar situations. With group dancing, the focus is never directly on the people but instead on the activity. In other words, people who love to dance tend to focus on the activity they love doing and away from people. All they’ll see is a fellow dancer enjoying freedom of movement just like them.


Build Your Self-Confidence

Dancing can build your confidence! As an introvert or someone who is shy, dance can help you get out of your comfort zone. Once you begin dancing, you will feel more confident in yourself while being present in the moment. Dance is an outlet for introverted people to build their confidence.

You may not think it initially, but dancing is the perfect activity for introverts, providing an outlet for self-expression. There are many reasons why dance classes that can benefit introverts.
